Dr. Ursula Klostermyer owns and operates Advanced Dentistry of Richmond. She began her dental career as a general dentist. After working several years as a general dentist she entered a dental graduate program to specialize prosthodontics. A prosthodontist is a specialist in complex treatment planning and execution of reconstructive and cosmetic dental procedures.
These include dental implants, fixed and removable dentures, dental crowns and bridges. Also included are full mouth restorations (a.k.a. full mouth rehabilitations) or single arch restorations. Thus, Advanced Dentistry of Richmond offers both general dentistry and specialized procedures – it’s two practices in one.
Note that less than 2% of all dentists are trained as Prosthodontists. This involves years of formal post-graduate dental training. Learn more about prosthodontists, – what they do, and how they are trained: click here – Prosthodontists.
Our goal is to first determine our patient’s dental needs and concerns. Then we’ll work up and present them with a couple of treatment options. They can then decide which option is most suitable for them. Some of the more complex cases may involve detailed treatment plans that involve other specialists like oral surgeons, orthodontists, periodontists, pedodontists, endodontists etc.
Our patients expect meticulous, personalized dental care using the best labs and biomaterials. This systematic process requires time, yet it allows us to provide some of the most advanced prosthetic restorative treatments available.
All patients receive the same level of precision, scrutiny, and individualized care. Whether they need a full mouth implant-supported prosthesis or simply a dental cleaning by a hygienist. We welcome young families and those with more complex dental needs. Young families with kids represent a growing part of our dental patient population.
We attempt to conserve and restore existing teeth where possible. When applicable, we offer the patient different treatment options. This includes considerations of cost expected outcomes, longevity, and personal care requirements of each option.
We do not adhere to methods and materials prescribed by dental insurance plans. Each patient has ample time for a thorough treatment.
This includes taking exact impressions by hand. We work only with select, detail oriented dental labs. We develop thorough treatment plans and use the most advanced bio-materials.
We focus on tooth shape, alignment, opacity, color, symmetry and natural look. Optimal bite and chewing function are also of paramount importance. We make every effort in both hygiene and restoration to do our very best job. For areas outside our skill set, we work with of a group of allied dental specialists. These include the areas of oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, and orthodontics.
Your smile prompts a reaction from others. Your conscious or subliminal response to this reaction has consequences. It may have a negative impact on your psyche if you are doubtful about your own appearance and ability to make a positive impression on others. High levels of confidence and self-esteem are essential for social interaction.
Our mouths are loaded with a collection of bacteria and viruses. The bacterium Streptococcus mutans, can proliferate in the presence of food residues and cause tooth decay. Gum disease is caused by other bacteria. A high accumulation of diverse viruses and bacteria in your mouth may also be the cause for maladies in other parts of the body. If they enter the circulatory system they can affect the valves of the heart. Dementia is also associated with gingivitis or gum disease. Those patients with pre-existing diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes are more likely to contract gum disease. (Webmd.com). More work is needed to better clarify these causal relationships.
Of course, a proper bite is an essential function of daily living. Thus, healthy teeth and gums can prevent a variety of other diseases and are important for living a long life. Thus, oral health is an investment in your self-esteem, your appearance, your comfort and your health.
Considering the importance and cost of dental care you should take the time to assess different providers. Many important decisions are influenced by emotions and facts. Try to avoid irrational, impulsive decisions. First, gather facts. Due diligence requires gathering information from more than one source. Assess the dental practice, its people, their qualifications, and other reviews patients leave after their visits. These might help you to determine if Advanced Dentistry of Richmond is the right practice for you.
